Veterinary Science deals with the study of animal health care, breeding, feeding and management practices. The job of a veterinarian is challenging keeping in view the wide range of animals. Contrary to earlier belief, veterinary profession is no longer a male bastion.

Veterinary science offers a large number of avenues of work and the demand for Veterinary doctors has increased tremendously. Veterinarians can choose to work with the government animal husbandry departments, poultry farms, diary farms, sheep and rabbit farms, race clubs, stud farms, private and government veterinary hospitals and clinics. Wildlife sanctuaries and zoological parks as well as aviaries need veterinarians. Army and the Border security Forces also employ veterinarians for the care and treatment of their horses, mules, camels and dogs. Private practice as well as teaching is another option.

Software Tester

Software testing is used to evaluate a system, by manual or automatic means, to test the specifications and coding of software. These test plays a critical strategic role in moving product quality upstream in the software development process while keeping the customer’s needs in mind. Software tester professionals work closely with software design engineers and program managers to understand product requirements and functionality, design appropriate test plans to verify features and functionalities.

 

Software testing is a growing industry in the computer Field. The demand for quality software testers is on the threshold of opening up in a big way as Indian companies offer testing facilities at very low cost as compared to their global counterparts. However do remember that software testing is quite different from software development. Pilot (Air Force)

There are two routes for joining the Indian Air Force as a Pilot in the Flying Branch: one, after 10+2 via the National Defence Academy (NDA) Exam and the other, after graduation via the Combined Defence Services Examination (CDSE). Upon clearing the test, you will be called to an Air Force Selection Board for Pilot Aptitude Battery Test (PABT) followed by a series of group tests, psychological tests and interview. Incidentally the PABT can be taken only once. Eligibility criteria for CDSE is a BSc degree with Physics and/or Maths or BE/BTech, Age 19-23 years. There is a special provision for male NCC “C” Certificate-holders in Sr. Division (Air Wing). Upon successful completion of training, cadets are absorbed as permanent commissioned officers in the Flying Branch of the IAF. Watch out for the notifications for both exams that appear in the month of April/May and October/November each year.

 

M.Sc (Forensic Science)

Forensic experts are independent professionals with degrees or their equivalents in a wide range of scientific disciplines. They work closely with the police to provide scientific evidence that is admissible in court.

The following universities offer MSc in forensic science and/or criminology. You can work in any of the for Central and 24 State-run forensic labs in the country besides police departments, prison administrations, detective and private security agencies and NGO’s.

Forensic Scientists are appointed by the Union and State Public Service Commissions.

Each Forensic Lab has a separate physics, chemistry, toxicology, ballistic, serology, documentation, finger printing, photography, polygraphy ( lie detection) division where lab tests are run on trace evidence collected from dead / live people.

Because of the heavy backlog of cases, there is a proposal to introduce mobile forensic units in some states, which would further boost the demand for forensic scientists.
